From your first message to the last crate set down inside, it comes down to three steps
-
1
Tell us the basics of the move
Fill out the short form or ring our Brookpark Road office here in Cleveland, where one of our own movers picks up in person. Three things get the ball rolling: the two ZIP codes, the week you are shooting for, and roughly how much of the house is going. Nothing to pay, nothing to sign, and your number never gets passed off to some sales floor.
-
2
One written number reaches you and holds firm clear through to move day
By the same working day you have a set figure on paper — no lowball over the phone, no bill that quietly doubles after the truck is packed. What we email you is what you settle up on move day, with nothing inching up along the way. Should a downtown loft, a Cleveland Clinic-area high-rise, or an HOA ask for a Certificate of Insurance before they release the freight elevator, Sharon has it filed with building management before their cutoff.

The moment the truck rolls up out front, the heavy lifting stops being yours
Our crew shows up with a truck loaded down with pads, floor runners, stair rollers, and the dollies a steep Cleveland basement and a pinched tree-lawn drive demand — and every hand on the job is a W-2 Cleveland local on our own payroll, never day-labor, never a sub. Coaxing the piano up out of the basement, working it down the tight drive and onto the truck, the run across town or down I-71, and putting each room back together — that all falls to us. And if the new place is not ready yet, the furniture goes straight into heated winter storage. Your week keeps moving right along.
What have you got to move?
Give us the rundown and our crew takes it from there. A brick colonial in Shaker Heights, a Lakewood up-and-down double, a downtown loft with a freight elevator, or a snowbird run down to Florida — McClain Trucking shows up with our own trucks, our own W-2 crew, and the road miles for whatever Greater Cleveland and Northeast Ohio asks.

“This is like my 5th time using them and always has gone very well. Will use them again”
Russ McClain — 20 years hauling and storing for households across Cleveland
“I got sick of watching Cleveland families get quoted one number over the phone and handed a bill twice that size once the truck was loaded”
Grew up on the West Side in Old Brooklyn and started out driving a box truck for a Cleveland mover right out of high school. To this day Russ rides along on most jobs himself — that is how the price stays honest and how you know the movers on your stoop are people we brought up and trained.
Why 5,737+ Greater Cleveland and Northeast Ohio families chose McClain Trucking
- One honest flat rate on paper — the number written down is the number you hand over, no lowball over the phone and no bill that doubles once the truck is loaded
- $1M of cargo coverage — with a Certificate of Insurance filed for your downtown building or HOA before whatever deadline they hand us
- Our own W-2 crews and trucks — Cleveland locals on our payroll and our insurance, never day-labor, never farmed out to a sub
- Heated winter storage — when the next place is not ready, your load waits clean, dry, and locked down through the Cleveland winter until you are set to take it
- Get the owner on the line — Russ answers the phone himself and still works the bigger Shaker and downtown jobs, not some distant call center calling the shots on your move
- 20 years around Northeast Ohio — the steep basements of Old Brooklyn, the brick colonials up in Cleveland Heights, and the Lakewood doubles off Detroit Avenue are routine days at work for our crew
Serving Greater Cleveland and Northeast Ohio
The cross-country routes we run most often out of Cleveland
One fair flat rate in writing, our own US DOT number painted on a truck we own outright, and door-to-door tracking on your load the entire way down I-71, I-77, or I-90.
Straight numbers laid out up front — you do not have to book a thing to read them
Do you run your own trucks and crews, or hire it out?
All of it stays under our own roof. McClain Trucking is a family-run household-goods mover, licensed and insured in Ohio, working out of Cleveland, OH on Ohio PUCO No. 178432-HG with active USDOT and MC operating authority. The trucks parked out back belong to us, the people loading them are our own W-2 Cleveland movers, and no part of your day ever gets farmed out to day-labor or a subcontractor.
How much should I set aside for a move around Cleveland?
In-town jobs come priced as a single flat rate for the whole move rather than a clock that keeps running, so the figure does not move whether the crew is muscling a sofa up a tight basement stairwell or backing down a narrow tree-lawn drive in Lakewood. For a ballpark, a two-mover crew sits around $140 an hour on the jobs where hourly makes more sense, and a two-bedroom apartment or condo tends to land between $700 and $1,400, with a three- or four-bed colonial running higher. Once Russ has walked the rooms or you have shown us over video, the flat rate gets written down in full — COI and heated storage and all.
How much lead time do you need to lock in a date?
Month-end and the summer rush book out before anything else, so aim to nail down a date a couple of weeks out — stretch that a bit for the busy May-through-September run. Deep winter opens right back up, and a few days’ heads-up is often plenty; we keep the trucks dug out and salted so a January slot still goes ahead as planned. And on a quieter week when a crew has an open slot, even a same-week call can usually find a home on the board.
Is there any job your crew says no to?
We work the whole of Greater Cleveland and Northeast Ohio — Ohio City and Tremont, Shaker and Cleveland Heights, Parma, Rocky River, Westlake, Strongsville, on out to Mentor and Brecksville — alongside long runs down I-71 and I-77, south toward Florida, west to Chicago, or east over to Pittsburgh. The heavy, awkward stuff is bread and butter for us: uprights, baby grands, and gun safes coaxed up out of those steep Cleveland basements on padded boards and stair rollers. And we go well past carrying boxes — full-service packing, heated winter storage, and unhurried help for seniors paring down are all on the menu.
Are you insured, and can you meet our building’s COI?
Always — and that Certificate of Insurance is the very thing the bargain-basement outfits trip over. Every move carries $1M of cargo liability, and you can add full-value protection on top, which generally runs 1–3% of the amount you declare. The crews are bonded and covered by general liability and workers’ comp. The minute a downtown loft, a Cleveland Clinic-area high-rise, or an HOA wants a COI in hand before they hand over the freight elevator, Sharon gets it filed with building management before the cutoff they set.
Do I have to stick around for the whole move?
It helps to have you there for the load and the unload both, particularly where a downtown building needs a name signed in at the dock, but if the day gets away from you, a trusted neighbor or family member can stand in without a hitch. Whoever ends up on site, the crew tags every item as it goes on the truck and ticks that same list off again as it carries each piece inside.
If my plans change, is there a charge to move or drop the date?
Cancel with 48 hours’ notice or more and there is nothing to pay, period. Bumping to another day is free too, as long as a crew is open when you need them. Month-end and summer dates disappear quickly around Cleveland, though, so the earlier you reach out, the better the odds of holding the window you have in mind.
How can I pay?
Pay whatever way suits you — Visa, Mastercard, Amex, and Discover, along with debit, a certified check, or straight cash, are all fine by us. Reserving the date costs you nothing upfront. The balance is not due until delivery, after you have given the load a look and signed off — not one moment before that.
What happens if something gets dinged on the way?
Standard released-value coverage at $0.60/lb comes along on every job at no charge. Notice something off? Point it out to the crew chief before the truck pulls away and it lands on that day’s inventory then and there, with most claims wrapped up well inside the roughly nine-month window we keep open. Sending along an heirloom, a piano, or something you simply could not stand to lose? Put full-value protection on it, around 1–3% of the figure you declare, and it rides with a good deal more cushion.
Move on the calendar? Pass it to McClain Trucking and cross it off your list.
Give us the two ZIP codes and the week you are looking at, and a straight flat rate — the building COI already worked in — comes back to you the same working day.
